The Life Story

of

Annette  Carter  Danckwerts

Introduction

Annette’s Life Story had its origins in late 2017.  Her health was deteriorating with the onset of ovarian cancer.  She knew that her time was running out.  It was then that I made one final special request of her, that she would write for me  the story of her life.  It was a hard thing to ask of her under the circumstances.  She was initially reluctant, not because she didn’t think she could do it, but because she thought her life was not that interesting or worth writing about.  I reassured her that it would always be interesting, not just for me but also for family and friends and future generations too.  Would she not have loved to be able to read the personal stories of her ancestors, to know of their experiences from different times?  So it would also be for her own extended family and descendants.  She agreed and got to work on this project.

So, this Life Story is not just for me but also for those who loved her and those who follow her in later generations.  She worked hard at it but, sadly, she got to the point where she knew she couldn’t finish it.  She wrote and then dictated notes to me until her last few days, then asked me to write the rest of it for her.  That I have done.

Annette died on the 13th June 2018 at Neringah Hospital, Wahroonga surrounded by her family.  It was a peaceful ending.

What Annette was able to set down has become Part 1 of her story here, titled Annette Carter, which takes us from her birth and early years up to the first few months of of our married life.  Part 2, titled Annette Danckwerts, covers the rest of her life which we shared together.  It has been up to me to try to do justice to her in writing this part and completing her story.

Here then is the story of Annette Carter Danckwerts who was my life partner for over 50 years.  It is written as a blog, using WordPress.  The first release is made up of the Part 1 that Annette was able to complete.  I have edited it and added appropriate photographs and links to other websites where I could find them.  The remaining releases have been written by me.  I will continue to add to them as further recollections come to mind.

Comments from readers to my email address (cdanckwerts@hotmail.com) are always welcome, particularly if you have contributions or photographs or links that you would like to have added to this story.
